![]() Ron Wyden (D-Oregon) have issued a letter to Equifax’s leadership stressing the gravity of the breach, stating that “Equifax is a critical partner of the Internal Revenue Service, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the Social Security Administration and other federal agencies that are the sources and recipients of some of the most sensitive information affecting individuals, as well as the targets of the vast majority of identity theft fraud against taxpayers.” The senators are demanding that by September 28, 2017, Equifax provide responses to 13 questions set forth in the letter, which request information such as a detailed timeline of the breach, actions Equifax has taken to mitigate and properly respond to the breach, background on Equifax’s information security program, whether Equifax used third-party security experts to test its systems, and whether the company worked to fix any of the issues that were identified in security testing. Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) and ranking member Sen. House of Representatives – Judiciary, Financial Services, and Energy and Commerce – plan to hold hearings on the breach in the coming weeks. The attorneys general for New York and Massachusetts have launched investigations and suits, and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), which shares oversight of credit bureaus with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), is looking into the breach and Equifax’s response. The revelation of the breach has drawn the attention of lawmakers and regulators at both the federal and state level, several of whom have expressed the view that increased federal regulation of the credit reporting industry and other companies that store vast amounts of sensitive personal information may be needed to combat similar incidents in the future. Response from Lawmakers and Potential for Increased Regulation As of Monday, September 11, more than 30 lawsuits have already been filed against Equifax in the United States related to the breach, including at least one accusing the company of securities fraud. After swift public backlash, a company spokesperson clarified that its arbitration clause applied only to the free credit monitoring service, and not the breach itself, meaning that consumers may still sue Equifax over the breach. While Equifax is offering free credit monitoring, it initially required people who enrolled in the service to agree to a mandatory arbitration clause, thereby waiving the right to sue Equifax. Three Equifax executives, including its chief financial officer, collectively sold $1.8 million in company shares days after the company discovered the breach, although the company maintains that the executives were unaware of the breach. ![]() Equifax set up a website for consumers to inquire whether their information may have been compromised in the breach and to sign up for a year of free credit monitoring, but consumers trying to access the website have encountered technical difficulties and confusing instructions. Further details about exactly how the breach occurred are still forthcoming, but it has been reported that the attack may have been due to Equifax’s use of an unpatched version of open-source web application software used for creating web applications.Įquifax’s delay in announcing the breach and its actions in the wake of the announcement drew criticism from consumer groups, lawmakers, and regulators. website application vulnerability to gain access to certain files. Equifax has stated that the cyber criminals exploited a U.S. The breach also involved the personal information of people in the United Kingdom and Canada. ![]() The credit card numbers of about 209,000 people and credit report dispute documents containing personally identifiable information of about 182,000 people were also stolen. The hackers accessed people’s names, Social Security numbers, birthdates, addresses and, in some instances, driver’s license numbers. ![]() According to Equifax, the breach lasted from mid-May through July 2017, and was discovered on July 29. On September 7, Equifax, one of three nationwide credit-reporting agencies that compile and evaluate the financial history of consumers, announced that it suffered a security breach in which sensitive information of approximately 143 million Americans was compromised.

The couple has a helicopter pilot fly them over the area where the girl possibly came from, although they crash-land in the Supai region of the Coconino County region of Arizona after being hit by a mysterious flash of light. Plot īlake Langermann is an assisting cameraman for his wife Lynn, an investigative journalist, who is investigating the murder of a pregnant teenager known only as Jane Doe. The game takes influence from the horror films The Hills Have Eyes, Race with the Devil, and The Blair Witch Project. Spare batteries suitable for the camcorder and medkits to heal are spread throughout the game. ![]() The player is equipped with an inventory system displaying the amount of footage recorded on the camera and the items they are carrying. Compared to the first game, Langermann's status as a cameraman means he carries a more advanced camera, one with clearer footage, zoom, and a sensitive microphone that can be used to detect distant footsteps and other noises. Langermann possesses only a camcorder, which has night vision capabilities, though the camcorder's batteries are also drained when night vision is used. He has a limited stamina meter and the player must manage how long he runs, lest he becomes exhausted and move more slowly. The player can crouch, run, jump, walk, vault, slide and climb much like the first game and can hide in lockers, barrels, wardrobes, beds, pools of water, tall grass, cornfields, and inside of houses. Langermann cannot fight except in scripted scenes, but must run and hide from the numerous hostile members of Temple Gate. The player controls the investigative journalist Blake Langermann, who investigates a dilapidated rural area in Supai, near the western edge of the Colorado Plateau. The game continues the found footage characteristics from the first game. A third installment in the series, entitled The Outlast Trials, was released on May 18, 2023. Criticisms were reserved for the amount of gore, and difficulty. The game was met with generally positive reception upon release, with praise going towards the graphics, sound design, and atmosphere. The Nintendo Switch version released on March 27, 2018, on the Nintendo eShop. Due to development delays, the game was ultimately released on April 25, 2017, for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. A gameplay demo was then released at both PAX East and E3 2016 on April 22 and June 15 respectively, with a release originally slated for Autumn 2016. Both get separated in a helicopter crash, and Blake has to find his wife while traveling through a village inhabited by a deranged sect that believes the end of days are upon them. A sequel to the 2013 video game Outlast, the game features a cameraman named Blake Langermann, along with his wife Lynn, a journalist roaming the Arizona desert to explore the murder of a pregnant woman only known as Jane Doe. ![]() With all the prep work done and a professionally organized model to work with, you’re ready to create a plan scene. Plan view of a 3D model in SketchUp - model by John Luttropp, available on 3D Warehouse Once you define a style and save a scene, your model will revert back to that style each time you navigate back to that scene. Style choices are preserved scene by scene. SketchUp provides a wide array of default styles to meet the goals of your drawings. Do you want to see materials, shaded objects, or all grayscale linework? Use styles to define the appearance of edges, section fills, colors, and materials. Avoid that potential rework by creating all the sections you’ll need before saving scenes. Section planes added after you define a scene will show up in each previous scene you’ll need to go back and hide the section plane and update each scene you’ve already created. Pro tip: add all of your section planes before you save any scenes. Manage section plane visibility and whether the active cut is on or off in the Styles menu. Use the Move tool to shift the planes up and down or side to side. Select the Section Plane tool - and click on a face in the model to orient the section cut. Styles menu interface and active section plane in SketchUp - 3D model by John Luttropp, available on 3D WarehouseĬreating a plan view and creating sections in LayOut are essentially the same, both done using the Section Plane tool. While you can manipulate models and toggle tags off and on in LayOut, it’s much easier and improves performance if you set those details in SketchUp. It’s good practice to think about doing ‘SketchUp stuff’ in SketchUp and ‘LayOut stuff’ in LayOut. ![]() LayOut’s real strengths are in creating and organizing 2D assets that sit on top of your model, like title blocks and annotations. LayOut and SketchUp work hand-in-hand, but each does its own thing very well. While making a floorplan in LayOut can be as simple as creating a section cut in your SketchUp model and clicking “Send to LayOut,” there are a few things to consider before moving into LayOut that will make your life much easier. ![]() Layers: assign drawings, titles, and annotations to different layers to fine-tune what’s visible and how everything is ordered on each sheetįor a closer look at how to get started with LayOut, follow along with this SketchUp Skill Builder.Pages: add, delete, copy, and arrange different pages within your LayOut document.SketchUp Model: select the scene you want to show in your viewport, define the drawing scale, and choose which styles and tags are displayed.A series of menus on the right side of the screen give you tools for dialing in your document and drawing settings, including: After creating a plan and building out your full drawing set, these icons smooth out navigation in LayOut and presenting to clients. Icons on the right side of the top navigation toolbar - can be used to add pages, navigate from one page to the next, or start a presentation using your document. There are a few handy features worth pointing out right off the bat. Customize both mouse and keyboard shortcuts from the preferences menu to tailor the program to your workflow. Navigate more precisely in LayOut with a three-button mouse the scroll wheel zooms in and out and the scroll wheel button pans across your drawing sheets. Some tools act similar to SketchUp, while others feel more like desktop publishing or drafting program controls. Navigation in LayOut is slightly different from what you’re used to in SketchUp. If you often use the same sheet size or document setup, set a default template to automatically open with your preferred settings when you start a new LayOut document. ![]() These can be found under "My Templates" in the initial document creation. I am all about the embracing of tiny joys lately, as the world is full of so much awfulness that each little pearl of fun can feel that much more important. If you’re interested in some crafting, go take a look at Krillo’s Guide for the Adventuring Artisan. Now that I’m back on track with the updating schedule, it’s nice to keep these sort of posts going. Shipping is estimated to occur by June 2023, which is pretty quick in my opinion too. The project runs until the 19th of February, and is doing pretty well so far – and there are several interesting stretch goals to go through, hopefully. In addition, you can get a bunch of other goodies, such as item and character cards, bookmarks, miniatures, and some really cool dice in various strange forms, such as an arrowhead d4, or a chainshot 2d6. Now, what do you get from the Kickstarter? Well, depending on your tier, you can get 7 booklets, one for each craft I mentioned, or one big book with all of them plus Krillo’s story – available of course in digital pdf form, and in physical form, softcover for the booklets and one hardcover for the collection. Runesmithing and Artificing (creating magic items) are also very interesting and fun, and there are a lot of fascinating ideas and cool things you can do with them. The systems seem to be straightforward but have a lot of details to work with, especially the tinkering one. I’ve taken a look myself, and I have to say, I’m interested. You can take a peek at some of the rules for each different craft on the Island of Bees website. An aspect of crafting is also harvesting materials from creatures and the environment – either to use or perhaps to sell for some extra profit. The crafting rules are mostly system-agnostic and are divided into 7 different categories: Alchemy, Blacksmithing, Herbalism, Runesmithing, Tinkering, Rituals, and Artificing, allowing players to craft and create their own magic items, potions, and all kinds of wonderful stuff. ![]() Krillo’s Guide for the Adventuring Artisan is a Kickstarter campaign by Island of Bees for a crafting supplement for fantasy RPGs. ![]() Whether you watch “ Yellowstone” or not, the series has left its mark on the television landscape, with competing networks greenlighting shows set in Montana or other rural red states in what has been unofficially dubbed by TV critics as “the ‘Yellowstone’ effect.” The question now is whether series creator and writer Taylor Sheridan can sustain the momentum after four seasons, two other shows on Paramount+, and soon-to-be two “Yellowstone” spinoff series. It’s time for fans to put on their cowboy hats and strap in for another season of backstabbing from the Duttons. Fans will get to see Beth’s ancestors when the prequel spinoff 1883 hits Paramount+ just before 2022 arrives, as its first episode will debut on Sunday, December 26.The First Family of Montana is back. Yellowstone Season 4 will hopefully reveal just how safe and still badass Beth Dutton is when it premieres on Paramount Network on Sunday, November 7, though anyone who needs a refresher can watch all three seasons streaming on Peacock. Could she have gotten her point across in the scene in a way that didn’t involve soaking in a trough? Certainly, but it wouldn’t have made nearly as big of an impact on audiences in proving that Beth is the most intriguing and watchable character on Yellowstone, as well as just about everything else on TV. With wine bottles at the ready, a frazzled Beth stripped to her birthday suit in the daytime sunlight, amidst anyone who happened to be working on the ranch at the time (including an equally frazzled Jamie), and offered no apologies, warnings or explanations.Īs easy as it would be to view this scene as purely titillating, that would be unfairly ignoring the way that Beth 100% owned that public nudity as much as she owns just about every other moment in her life. Yeah, I know this sequence happened all the way back in Season 1’s third episode, but it remains a calling card for just how imbued Beth’s DGAF attitude is within her core. (Image credit: Peacock) Beth’s DGAF Trough Bath Even though I’m giving Rip the benefit of being included in this entry, I think we can all agree that Beth has been the one holding the reins, and will hopefully continue to do so in Season 4 and beyond. These are characters who would likely self-sabotage any other relationship they’d be in, but because they’re cut from very similar cloths, fans don’t have to watch either go through annoying romance cycles that are destined to be destroyed. Plus, the fact that Rip is just as emotionally grizzled and walled-up as Beth is makes their evolution from youthful sweethearts to adult lovers all the more fun to root for. She’s so hardcore, she even has trouble accepting the fact that she is deserving of happiness, so whenever she is able to embrace any form of enjoyment, it’s that much more of a victory. But that’s precisely what makes Beth and Rip’s relationship so fantastic and enjoyably frustrating, as well as what makes the relationship such a big factor in Beth’s character on the whole. Yellowstone is clearly not that kind of show, as just about none of its central relationships hold a candle to anything Disney-fied. (Image credit: Paramount Network) Because Beth & Rip 4Everįairy tale romances are nothing new on TV, and some shows are built entirely around them. Granted, the bombing at the end of Season 3 may well indeed have caused potentially fatal damage, but I would expect Beth to survive anything less than someone shooting her into the vacuum of space. While she was obviously affected by the brutal incident, Beth didn’t let many others in on that fact, and she emerged from it as vengeful and dedicated as ever. But arguably the biggest example of Beth’s strength and determination came in the episode “Resurrection Day,” when she was attacked by the Beck brothers’ henchmen and refused to be a helpless victim, even in the face of rape threats. One only has to look at Beth living her life knowing that she couldn’t conceive children, thanks to teen Jamie’s terrible decision. ![]() ![]() ![]() But, if anybody thinks they can keep Beth Dutton down for the count, they can sit on the sharpest fencepost. They just happen to do it with brutal swiftness, and without much regard for others’ wishes, which leads trouble right up to their doorstep, both literally and figuratively. The Duttons are, for better or worse, just normal people trying to hold on to what’s theirs. One of the most refreshing things about Yellowstone is that the creative team doesn’t treat the drama’s main characters as if they’re invincible or invulnerable. (Image credit: Peacock) Beth Dutton Takes A Licking And Keeps On Ticking ![]() In order to see whether this seems at all possible, the paper examines the most recent television series, Star-Crossed, in which the original Shakespearean narrative unit (Romeo and Juliet) is broken up into several episodes, thus adopting the most popular televisual genre of our time. The paper investigates the ways Shakespeare’s oeuvre, with its reputation for a universal adaptability that embraces all media and contexts, finds its way into a serial structure that is the dominant form of visual performance today. We will do so with particular reference to heavily serialized shows both in US and in Europe. Finally, we will argue that these strategies can raise issues that risk to make the narrative experience of contemporary TV series less valuable. We will present what we consider the two main fi lling strategies in contemporary TV series, namely the fl ash strategy 3 and the strand strategy 4. We will argue that these two options are not suffi cient in order to fi ll the TV series' amount of time. ![]() We will show that, with respect to this issue, contemporary TV series primarily face two options, which we will call the super-knot and the super-knotty rope. More specifi cally, according to Aristotle, " Every tragedy is in part Complication and in part Denouement the incidents before the opening scene, and often certain also of those within the play, forming the Complication and the rest the Denouement ". We will argue that this vast amount of time can confl ict with the structural constraints of formulaic narrative, especially from an Aristotelian perspective according to which a narrative is inherently a knot to be untied. ![]() There are so many contemporary series considered experimental in time structure that, as Melissa Ames puts it, " although temporal play has existed on the small screen prior to the twenty-fi rst century never before has narrative time played such an important role in mainstream television " 2. As suggested by Jason Mittell, time is constitutive of TV seriality: " a series is a cumulative narrative that builds over time " and also " time is an essential element of all storytelling but is even more crucial for television " or " seriality itself is defi ned by its use of time " 1. This paper starts by claiming that the amount of narrative time is one of the distinctive features by virtue of which TV series are treated as a self-standing appreciative kind in contemporary culture. ![]()
